The menstrual cycle is the process by which a woman’s body gets ready for the
chance of a pregnancy each month. Women, in normal terms, maintain a pattern of
period that is ideally 28 days, but no one is completely regular. It can vary
from 23 days to 35 days. But, women having their periods roughly on the same
date every month are considered to be regular. At a certain age, the frequency
of the periods fluctuates, making it difficult for the woman to track the date.
Women have problems in their menstrual cycle—called menstrual irregularities or
menstrual problems. They may not get periods, get periods too frequently, have
unpredictable menstrual bleeding, or they may have painful periods. A woman's
life can be significantly disturbed by menstrual irregularities, and the problem
can aggravate if not given the necessary awareness.
Menstrual irregularities are
also called as anovulatory periods, this indicates that the woman does not develop and is unable to release a mature
egg regularly every month. Women respond differently to the
condition and hence, the menstrual irregularities are also of different types.
The reason behind the menstrual irregularity can be divided into physical and
psychological.
Anxiety and other forms of emotional daily stress,
overwork and fatigue can cause menstrual irregularities. If factors are not
controlled, they can threaten you emotionally, thus upsetting the balance of
your bodily functions and start changes that will lead to menstrual
irregularities. However, the physical causes of menstrual irregularities are
much more frequent.
Hormones like estrogen and progesterone have an
explicit effect on your menstruation since they regulate the ovulation during
the menstrual cycle. Without a reasonable level of hormones in their bodies,
women are unable to properly ovulate, resulting in abnormal menstruation that
will lead to menstrual irregularities. So maintaining healthy hormone levels are
important to avoid and control menstrual irregularities.
Most of the time, women receive
a prescription for the birth control pill in order to regulate virtually any
menstrual concerns. The pill does a good job of overriding your own hormonal
interplay and supplementing your body so that it does not experience the
symptoms of hormonal imbalance anymore. While this is a good choice for some
instances, in women who are sure they would some day like to conceive a child it
is to their advantage to rectify the hormonal imbalance without oral
contraception. There is no time to lose as long term hormonal imbalance can set
the stage for estrogen dominant issues such as fibroids, endometriosis and even certain types
of cancers.
Acupuncture and Chinese
herbal medicine provide a natural, safe and effective way to resolve menstrual
irregularities and infertility. To regulate the menstrual cycle, a diagnosis will be made based
on history, pulse and tongue diagnosis, and lifestyle. Acupuncture and Chinese
herbs can help the body to adjust hormone levels and balance out the menstrual
cycle. Acupuncture is effective and safe, and adding herbal therapy to your
treatments only enhances the therapeutic effects and shortens the treatment
time.
